Rocky Ford City Council Establishes Public Works Appreciation Day
October 14 of each year is hereby proclaimed as Public Works Appreciation Day.

Letter from a Citizen:
Re: Our recent challenge with a water leak | My conversations with Rick Long | A formal request for recognition / props.
Please allow this email to serve, in part, as our formal request to recognize Public Works Director Rick Long and his crew for their hard work and successful efforts in repairing a water leak in the street directly West of our home. Recently, I spotted a small amount of standing water and contacted Rick prior to adverse weather (which likely would have exacerbated the issue). Rick and his crew immediately responded to the aforementioned location and confirmed the leak. To that effect, Rick and his crew repaired the leak; contacted me in regards to an update; and had the hole filled soon thereafter. This type of high level service is not an anomaly, but is the gold standard of Rick and his Team. I have personally witnessed this very same top shelf service and comportment on a plethora of occasions from them over the years.
Recently, I heard a member of Council state something to the effect that City employees and their Directors do not get enough recognition, a proclamation of which I readily agree. All too often, complaints readily roll in, whereas giving compliments seem to be a rarity. I have known Rick since we purchased our home, and he has always gone above and beyond to serve. His dedication to the City along with his professionalism is genuine and appreciated. The same goes for his Team. They are dedicated to serve and it is obvious they care about the City along with its people. This other-centered type of service is extremely rare in any industry and is an absolute asset to the community.
Concomitant with the aforementioned, we respectfully request that Rick and his Team be formally recognized for their tremendous service and professionalism. Moreover, we ask that any and all commendations be placed in their respective personnel file. Should you have any questions regarding this all important matter, do not hesitate to contact me at (719)980-5565. As always, we appreciate your time.
