2026 Sidewalk Assistance Program

The 2026 Sidewalk Assistance Program is open, and applications are being accepted.  The Sidewalk Assistance Program is a community-focused initiative designed to support property owners in maintaining safe, accessible, and visually appealing sidewalks throughout the city.

Sidewalks are a vital part of Rocky Ford’s infrastructure. They connect neighborhoods, support local businesses, and ensure safe mobility for residents of all ages and abilities. However, over time, sidewalks can deteriorate due to weather, age, and regular use. Recognizing the financial burden that repairs and replacements can place on property owners, the City has developed this program to provide meaningful cost-sharing assistance.

Through the Sidewalk Assistance Program, the City will fund up to 50 percent of eligible sidewalk replacement costs, with a maximum contribution of $5,000 per property. This partnership approach ensures that improvements can be made while keeping projects affordable for residents. For example, a $6,000 project would be split evenly, with the City contributing $3,000 and the property owner covering the remaining $3,000. For larger projects, such as a $15,000 replacement, the City would provide the maximum $5,000 contribution, with the property owner responsible for the balance.

This program is more than a financial resource; it is an investment in community safety and long-term infrastructure. By addressing damaged or non-compliant sidewalks, Rocky Ford aims to reduce tripping hazards, improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities, and create a more walkable environment for everyone. At the same time, these improvements enhance the overall appearance and functionality of our neighborhoods, contributing to community pride and economic vitality.

Funding for the program comes from the voter-approved 1% sales tax dedicated to street and sidewalk improvements, which is currently authorized through 2027. Each year, the City Council will determine the available funding levels as part of the adopted Streets and Sidewalks Repair Plan, ensuring that resources are allocated responsibly and aligned with community needs.

Property owners interested in participating in the 2026 program must submit their applications by July 31, 2026. The City encourages early participation, as funding is limited and demand is expected to be strong.

By working together, the City of Rocky Ford and its residents can continue to build a safer, more accessible, and more connected community...one sidewalk at a time.
